Safe Pets Safe Families provides foster care for the pets (companion animals) of people in the community who are experiencing a crisis, primarily due to domestic violence, as well as homelessness or mental health crisis.

” Our service helps give people the confidence to leave dangerous situations without leaving their pets behind and at risk of violence or abandonment.”

SPSF also reduces the burden on animal shelters by decreasing the number of animals being neglected, surrendered and needlessly euthanised.

Currently operating in the Adelaide metropolitan region with more services due in 2018/19. (Tasmania, Melbourne and Far North NSW)

ALEP- the Animal Law and Education Project is a Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre initiative that has been running since 2009.

In response to the community’s call for greater animal protection, ALEP has grown to be an influential organisation, now helping other CLC’s (Central Land Councils) to set up their own ALEP’s around the country. We currently rely on donations and receive no government funding.

Who we are: We are a committed volunteer group of lawyers, law students, academics, animal protection advocates, wildlife carers and animal lovers.

What we do:

  • Lobby for law reform
  • Community awareness raising on animal issues
  • Write submissions to legislative reviews and reforms
  • Media for animal issues
  • Run workshops, free for the public on animal issues
  • Legal information for animal activists
  • Legal referral service
  • Build networks of animal protection advocates
